PEONY BUD HAT: (other patterns available separately)

The hat is designed to be knit sideways. The short row elements create a flower bud and leaves in an Art Deco style.

The Peony Bud Hat is designed to be knit in DK/light worsted weight yarn..

The short rows create the shaping that a more common, horizontal hat would use decrease for.

It is upsized by adding a few garter rows in a place that does not interfere with or impede the overall design & through a slight change in needle size.

The design is part of a 3-piece set that uses 2 hanks of yarn to make 3 pieces (other patterns sold separately).

Please review all pages of the pattern to see what is offered here, but I DO NOT encourage you to read the entire INSTRUCTIONS first, as short rows get very confusing to the average knitter.  Please hold questions until you are working and get stuck. I have found most things are evident when you are in process and very obscure before (aka- reading).

Yarn Choices:  This piece is knit in DK/light worsted weight yarn.  Other yarn weights are possible but will impact your outcome.  Adjustments to needle size and other factors that impact gauge should be considered.  I have listed the yarns I used.

I seem to be knitting tighter than one of my main testers, so you should assume my exact yarn use is a low figure, please.

NEEDLES & GAUGE:     The pattern works with ANY type/format needles (it is not worked in the round).

I like using rounds with shorter cable, but honestly, I use is whatever I have handy at the time.

AVERAGE uses US 05’s/3.5mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING. AVERAGE 22 sts to 4” and 44 Rows to 4”

LARGE uses US 06’s/4.0mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING. LARGE 20 sts to 4” and 42 Rows to 4”

NOTE, I did not block these hats. They are meant to have lots of stretch, I dry them flat.

SIZES:   This hat is knit in GARTER.  It will look TINY and stretch a ton; lots of negative ease.

The fit should be snug.  Both sizes fit my head, which is 21.5”.  One is looser, one is tighter.

It is designed to fold over at the bottom for a doubled edge or be quaintly tall without any folding.

AVERAGE-   Knitted piece is 8.25” wide (16.5” around) & 11.5” tall (not brimmed/ no fold).    Fits my head, that is 21.5” around, comfortably.

LARGE-       Knitted piece is  11” wide (22” around) & 12” tall (not brimmed/ no fold).   Fits a head, that is 24” around, comfortably.

NOTIONS:       A yarn sewing needle for joining.  Markers if desired.  Scrap yarn for Provisional Cast On.

ACCESSORIES:     The hat is very cute with a Pom Pom.Mine came from www.etsy.com/market/lala_des
